  It provides a way of peer sharing.

  I still believe that OCS could provide for peer sharing using the database module.

  This does not use Samba and I think that this is a feature that we need to include.

  I like the addition of Samba to the server. It gives an onto / off of solution for files outside of the "moodle" environment. However the requirement that one must be on the same local network for SMB to work is restrictive.

  Students might be on a different network than teachers or a user might want to move files from home.

  I would suggest FTP might work better. There are GUIs for FTP clients that would be simple enough to use.

  Well, I'm diddling again. I have been working with a college prof who has been using a web-based response system for some time now. He has agreed to send me two versions - one for Windows XP; and one for OS X. We will be trying to get it to operate from a flash drive that we could hook to a teacher's computer. Once operational students can log in from any workstation and respond to surveys. If there are sufficient devices in the room the survey can be a fully functional immediate feedback environment. The server offers all of the usual audience response features including graphs, reports, stored quizzes, etc.

  The backup/restore feature of OpenClassroom offers a great opportunity for sharing courses as templates. Once a course has been developed it can be backed up (without student data). This file could then be deposited at a central repository with a brief description that included subject/grade level, etc. Others could download the file and restore it to their servers for modification for their local needs.
